"Transformers" starlet making "Friends"

Maxim magazine covergirl Megan Fox, who is generating buzz with her starring role opposite Shia LaBeouf in "Transformers," has joined the cast of "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People."

Fox joins a cast that includes Simon Pegg, Kirsten Dunst, Jeff Bridges and Danny Huston in the story about the disastrous stint of a contributing editor (Pegg) at a magazine. Fox will play a young Hollywood starlet getting her first taste of fame.

The comedy is based on Toby Young's memoir of his time working in the pseudo-glitzy world of Vanity Fair. Robert B. Weide ("Curb Your Enthusiasm") will direct.

Fox also co-starred in television's "Hope & Faith," and appeared opposite Lindsay Lohan in "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen."

Lily Allen arrested over assault on photographer

British pop sensation Lily Allen has been charged and bailed over an alleged assault on a photographer outside a London club.

The 21-year-old singer, who rose to fame on the back of her MySpace page, presented herself to police yesterday.

A Scotland Yard spokesperson told media: "At 9.30am yesterday, a 21-year-old woman attended a central London police station by appointment.

The alleged incident took place outside London's Wardour Club in Soho on March 13.

Allen, who earlier this year cancelled a number of US tour dates citing tiredness, is due to tour Australia in August. (SMH)

Potter Star Emma Watson Voted 'Britain's Greatest Female Ambassador'

Harry Potter star Emma Watson is the one most Brits believe is their country's 'Greatest Female Ambassador'.

The 17-year old, who plays the muggle-born witch Hermione Granger in the hit movie adaptations of the Harry Potter novels, has beat out the likes of older, and more well known faces such as Kate Moss, Keira Knightley and Victoria Beckham.

The poll was conducted by Top of the Pops magazine, and editor Peter Hart said that it was Watson's combination of beauty and brains that were the qualities that sealed the deal.

Coming in close on Hermione's heels in second place was Oscar nominee Keira Knightley, followed by singer Lily Allen in third spot.

Fourth place on the list went to pregnant singer Charlotte Church.

Rounding off the top five was another pregnant beauty, former glamour model Jordan.

And, while Victoria Beckham aka Posh Spice only managed eighth place, Kate Moss and Girls Aloud's Sarah Harding found themselves a the bottom of the poll.Chinadaily.com.cn

Uma Thurman to star in HBO's "Zinc Bed"

Uma Thurman, Jonathan Pryce and Paddy Considine will star in "My Zinc Bed," an HBO adaptation of the play by acclaimed playwright David Hare ("The Hours").

Anthony Page ("Inadmissible Evidence") is on board to direct Hare's screenplay. It will be filmed in London.

"Zinc" examines issues of alcohol addiction and obsession through the story of a young recovering alcoholic (Considine) who becomes involved with his boss' (Pryce) young wife (Thurman), formerly a cocaine addict.

Thurman won a Golden Globe for her starring role in HBO's "Hysterical Blindness." Pryce earned Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for HBO's "Barbarians at the Gate." Paddy Considine stars in HBO Films' upcoming "PU-239." which is filming in London.

The original 2000 staging of "My Zinc Bed" at London's Royal Court starred Tom Wilkinson, Julia Ormond and Steven Mackintosh. The play was nominated for best new play at the 2001 Laurence Olivier Theatre Awards. (Reuters)

Spice Girls set date to reveal plans

Talk of a Spice Girls reunion has swirled for weeks - boosted by Sporty Spice herself - and on Friday the vivacious five said they would make "an announcement to the world" next week.

Gossip took a major leap, and suddenly old film clips of the 1990s pop sensations were all over British television.

The statement issued by the quintet's management company seemed designed to move the rumors up a notch and stretch them out for a good week.

Victoria (Adams) Beckham (Posh Spice), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice), Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) and Melanie Brown (Scary Spice) formed the Spice Girls in 1994. They became a global hit before splitting in 2001.

Chisholm, who had opposed a reunion, recently told the British Broadcasting Corp. she had changed her mind.

The Spice Girls' 2000 album, "Forever," had weak sales, and they began concentrating on their solo careers.

Richie and Madden to Wed?

Nicole Richie has ignited reports she is to wed boyfriend Joel Madden after she was spotted at a Hollywood party wearing a large diamond sparkler on her ring finger.

The Simple Life star has so far refused to confirm or deny recent reports of a rumored pregnancy, prompted by pictures of the skinny star with a bloated belly.

And now the Good Charlotte rocker--who accompanied Richie to the YSL Pool Party at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Thursday night--appears to have proposed to his lover.

An eyewitness tells the New York Post's gossip column Page Six, "It was one big rock surrounded by more diamonds.

"(Madden was) overly attentive to her--keeping his arm around her all night--and repeatedly asked her if she was OK." (WENN)

Pamela Anderson fights Finland fur farms

Free the Finnish fur foxes, Pamela Anderson says. After arriving Thursday to host a music festival west of Helsinki, Anderson told Finnish President Tarja Halonen in a letter that her nation should emulate other countries that have banned fur farms.

Finland's fur auctioneers said the appeal was unrealistic. "It's not surprising coming from her, a known anti-fur campaigner," said Paivi Mononen-Mikkila, a spokeswoman for the Finnish Fur Sales auction house. "It's really not realistic as so many people earn their livelihood from the fur trade."

Finland, one of Europe's top fur producers, has 1,400 farms that produce about two million fox furs annually. The industry employs 10,000 people.

Halonen's office acknowledged receiving the letter but declined comment. (AP)

Kate Hudson has date with Cook in "Bachelor'

Kate Hudson is set to star opposite Dane Cook in the comedy "Bachelor No. 2."

Cook plays a man hired to take girls out on terrible dates to prompt them to return to boyfriends they left. Conflict ensues when he offers his services to his best friend and falls for the girl, played by Hudson.

Production is slated to begin in August in Boston, with Howard Deutch directing from Jordan Cahan's screenplay. A third-quarter 2008 release is planned via Lionsgate.

Hudson was in theaters last year with "You, Me and Dupree." She stars opposite Matthew McConaughey in "Fool's Gold," set for a February 2008 release. Cook's recent credits include "Employee of the Month" and "Mr. Brooks." [chinadaily]

Catherine Zeta-Jones makes family her main concern

Catherine Zeta-Jones' main priority isn't her acting career, it's her husband, Michael Douglas, and their two young children.

Zeta-Jones, who won a 2003 supporting actress Oscar for her role in "Chicago," married Douglas in 2000. They have two children ¡ª son, Dylan, 6, and daughter, Carys, 4 ¡ª and live much of the year on the island of Bermuda.

The couple also have homes in Manhattan and Majorca, Spain, and a farm in Quebec, Canada. "Some people collect art," she says. "We collect houses."

Zeta-Jones, whose movie credits also include "Ocean's Twelve" and "Traffic," isn't about to quit acting just yet. In the upcoming dramedy "No Reservations," she portrays a chef whose life takes a new turn when she becomes the guardian of a 9-year-old niece. She's also wrapped up "Death Defying Acts," about Harry Houdini.

Gisele blame Families For Anorexia

Gisele Bundchen has entered Brazil's growing debate over anorexia, saying families are to blame - not the fashion industry.

The 26-year-old model was in Brazil for the annual Fashion Rio, a weeklong showcase for some of the country's top designers.

Anorexia became a hot issue in Brazil after the deaths of four young women last month, including 21-year-old model Ana Carolina Reston.

Splashed across the front pages of newspapers nationwide, the subject has held morbid fascination for Brazilians, and was even the theme of a popular TV soap opera. It also sparked a debate within Brazil's fashion industry.

Other countries, too, have begun to address what they see as the dangerous link between high fashion glamour and an unhealthy image of women. In September, Madrid's Fashion week banned underweight models. Italy's designers followed suit in December, requiring models to submit proof that they do no suffer from an eating disorder.

Bundchen, who left home for a three-month modeling job in Japan when she was 14, said family support was key to her. (AP)

Fan Bingbing Opens Her Own Company

In spite of the flourishing speculation over the future of Chinese actress Fan Bingbing once she finished her seven year contract with Huayi Bros, few could have predicted that she would announce the establishment of her own company on Tuesday during the ongoing Shanghai Television Festival.

Shanghai-based Oriental Morning Post reports the company will deal with all aspect of the actress' career including her acting, singing and film roles.

The actress also held a press conference for the first investment effort of her company, a TV drama named "Yan Zhi Xue" which is her debut as a producer.

When asked why she decided to open her own company, the actress confessed that she disliked the role of a "passive" actress. "While actors are performing roles, they usually have to act according to the thoughts and ideas of directors and screenwriters." In order to have more control over her career, Fan Bingbing decided to be her own boss.

Fan Bingbing revealed her new company will only be involved in the production and release of TV dramas and movies for the first few years.

Monica Bellucci: Beauty has no laws

Italian actress Monica Bellucci feels that beauty cannot be defined by set rules, and that different women look attractive in their own right.

The Italian sex symbol insisted that 'beauty has no laws'.

"Beauty has no law and there is no one way to be beautiful. Women like Sophia Loren and Charlotte Rampling have two totally different ways of being sexy," Daily Express quoted Bellucci, as saying.

The statuesque 42-year-old revealed that she is proud of what she has and is lucky that directors think that Italian women are 'strong'.

"My body is important to me. My face, my arms, my hands, my eyes, everything. I use everything I have. Today, if women look or feel voluptuous they feel guilty," she said.

"I'm lucky if some directors still think of Italian women as being strong, sensuous and dangerous," she added.

'The Matrix Revolutions' actress however feels that Hollywood directors often relate her Italian beauty to being a 'strong woman' within, although she confesses that she's actually 'weak and insecure' inside.

"You should ask the directors why they think of me for those roles," she said.

Maggie Q's Hands Cut While Filming `Die Hard'

Hong Kong-based actress and martial artist Maggie Quigley said Friday that her hands were badly cut while filming car stunt scenes for the coming film "Die Hard 4.0."

The latest installment in the "Die Hard" series, titled "Live Free or Die Hard" in the United States, revolves around a planned cyber-terror attack on the United States.

In the film, Bruce Willis teams up with Justin Long, who plays a computer hacker, to thwart the evil Mai, played by Quigley.

Audiences will get to see Quigley beat Willis up.

The movie opens in Japan on June 23. It opens in the United States and elsewhere on June 27.

Quigley made her name in the Hong Kong film industry before moving on to Hollywood projects such as the recent action flick "Mission: Impossible III," the comedy "Rush Hour 2" and Jackie Chan's "Around the World in 80 Days."

The actress grew up in Hawaii, the daughter of a Polish-Irish American father and a Vietnamese mother.

Poppy Flower Girl Fanny Shu in New Ad

Hong Kong actress Fanny Shu turns into a "poppy flower girl" for her new TV commercial promoting a perfume.

The commercial features Fanny Shu crossing into a fairyland-like wood and arriving at a lake scattered with blossoming poppy flowers.

290 poppy flowers were used when the advertisement was shot in the U.S. city of Miami.

"Super Girl" Shang Wenjie Launches First EP

The latest winner of China's extremely popular TV singing competition Super Girl, Shang Wenjie, released her first musical offering on Wednesday.

The EP, entitled "A La Claire Fontaine," collects four songs, including the French song Shang Wenjie sang for the 2006 Hollywood film "The Painted Veil."

Huayi Brothers Music, the EP's distributor, says that another 20,000 deluxe-packaged copies will also be available through online purchase from June 8.

Fans of Shang Wenjie worldwide will be able to buy the limited version soon at pconline.com.cn (in Chinese).

Shang Wenjie, a former French language major at Shanghai's prestigious Fudan University, rose to national fame after taking the first prize in the 2006 Super Girl contest.

With Race Row Still Rumbling, New British 'Big Brother' Kicks off

A reality television show which sparked a racist bullying row involving Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty was back on air for a new series Wednesday.

But moments before the eighth series of "Big Brother" got under way, broadcasters Channel 4 were forced to screen details of the "significant failings" detected by communications watchdog Ofcom over the row.

In January, Ofcom received nearly 45,000 complaints about alleged racist material which centered on Shetty's treatment at the hands of fellow contestants on the celebrity version of the show.

She was insulted by fellow stars including Jade Goody -- a former reality TV celebrity whose profile has plummeted since -- and former Miss Great Britain Danielle Lloyd.

Shetty also rowed with fellow contestants when she cooked a chicken and they made derogatory comments about the eating habits of Indian people.

As a punishment for the way it handled the row, Channel 4 had to show the statement, which concluded by saying: "This ensures that the largest number of viewers will be made fully aware of the seriousness of Channel 4's failure to comply (with Ofcom's code)."

The code aims to protect viewers from potentially offensive material.

"Big Brother" is a massively popular show with versions worldwide where viewers chose a winner from among contestants whose activities are broadcast around the clock by cameras inside their studio house.

Shetty, 31, won the celebrity version earlier this year for what many viewers saw as a dignified performance in the face of alleged racist bullying.

The latest, non-celebrity version features an all-female cast of contestants and house rules have been tightened to warn against bullying and offensive remarks on the basis of race, religion or sexuality.

"Big Brother" also came under fire in Australia earlier this month when it emerged that a contestant had not been told of the death of her father.

Director of Marketing Stacy Shuster said: "We are all about fun, celebrity and current events.

"So, when we heard that Paris was going to be reporting to jail sometime in June, we got together and we said - it would be a fun great idea if we could put Paris in some jail clothing and give our guest just a little bit of fun with it."

The 26-year-old is currently serving 23 days imprisonment at the Century Regional Detention Facility for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.

Her lawyer, Richard Hutton, said after a jailhouse visit with the blonde that she "is doing well" and that she intended to use her time to reflect on her life and decide how she can "make the world a better place". english.cri.cn

Sarah Jessica Parker sparks fashion frenzy

She won fans and became a fashion icon with her tales of single life in "Sex and the City," and on Thursday Sarah Jessica Parker sparked a shopping frenzy when she unveiled her own clothing collection.

Hundreds of women queued in a New York mall to see Parker launch her Bitten label, based on her belief that it's "every woman's inalienable right to have a pulled-together, stylish, confident wardrobe with money left over to live."

But while Parker's character Carrie preferred high-end designer clothes -- from Ralph Lauren, Dolce and Gabbana and Escada to Manolo Blahnik shoes -- the actress' fashion line she designed herself is considerably more affordable with $20 dresses and $10 tops.

Parker's fashion collection is being stocked by retail chain Steve & Barry's and the company's Manhattan Mall store was mobbed by hundreds of mainly female shoppers, with many leaving laden down with bags of clothes.

The launch of a clothing line by Parker -- whose motto is "fashion is not a luxury, it's a right" -- follows a trend of retailers hiring celebrities to help win an increasingly competitive battle for fashion-savvy mid-market shoppers.

Singers Madonna and Kylie Minogue have designed clothes for Swedish chain H&M, model Kate Moss put together a collection for Britain's Top Shop, singer Lily Allen struck a deal with Britain's New Look and high-end designers Stella McCartney and Josh Goot designed ranges for Target Australia.

t.A.T.u star Yulia Volkova pregnant with second child

Good news comes from Russian music duo t.A.T.u's personnel, Yulia Volkova. She's been reported pregnant with her second child. She's carrying new partner, businessman Parviz's baby.

Singer/actor friend, Sergey Lazarev confirmed the pregnancy news, saying "Yes, she's pregnant, she told me a few weeks ago. She's expecting at Christmas. I'm really excited for her. Motherhood has really changed her. When she gave birth to Viktoria she suddenly grew up and calmed down. She's a lot more mature now."

Volkova, who is still 20 years old, already has a two-year-old daughter, Viktoria Pavlovna, from a previous relationship. The songbird, claimed as the "bad girl" of t.A.T.u, is said to be desperate for a son. Hopefully she'll get what she's dreamt of so far.

Mischa Barton to star in lesbian film

Former O.C. star Mischa Barton is coming out on the big screen in Roland Joffe's Russian coming-of-age drama Finding t.A.T.u., reports Variety.

The movie, adapted from the novel t.A.T.u. Come Back by Russian author A. Mitrofanov, follows the story of a lonely American teenager in Moscow who becomes friends with a local girl over their obsession with the gay-for-pay pop band t.A.T.u.

In 2000 t.A.T.u. caused international controversy with their music video single "I've Lost My Mind." The video, which aired on MTV Russia, depicted the band's two female singers dressed as Catholic school girls singing the song and kissing sensually.

With the release of the documentary Anatomiya t.A.T.u. in 2003, it became apparent that the girls' sexuality was a publicity stunt.

The cast also includes Shantel VanSanten, Anton Yelchin, Alex Kaluzhsky, and Helena Mattsson. (The Advocate)

Kylie Minogue receives Trusts' award

Australian pop star Kylie Minogue will become the first woman to receive Britain's Music Industry Trusts' Award at a ceremony in London on Oct. 29.

The awards committee called Minogue, a breast cancer survivor whose career in music has spanned 20 years, "one of the great entertainers of all time" and "an icon of pop and style," the BBC reported Monday.

Minogue, 38, said she was "truly thrilled" about receiving the annual award, which is in 16th year and recognizes a wide range of figures connected to the music industry, including retailers and company executives.

Previous recipients of the award include Sir Elton John and Peter Gabriel.

"As well as being a fantastic evening, this award ceremony also raises much needed funds for The Brit Trust and Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy, and it is a pleasure for me to be involved," said Minogue.

Kate Winslet the new face of Lancome

Kate Winslet has been named the new celebrity spokesperson for cosmetics giants Lancome as part of an internet launch in Paris, France.

The Titanic star greeted a crowd of fans in Paris yesterday after she was announced as the new face of the Tresor fragrance.

Winslet was chosen as the successor to actress Isabella Rossellini, who appeared in ads for the fragrance last year.

Previous star faces for Lancome include Uma Thurman and Clive Owen.

Jennifer Aniston romancing a mystery man?

It seems that actress Jennifer Aniston has finally found love after parting ways with her on-again off-again beau Vince Vaughn in October.

The former Friends star was spotted sharing a romantic dinner with a handsome mystery man at Santa Monica's One Pico restaurant in the Shutters Hotel on May 26.

The pair had an intimate conversation for three hours, leaning in close and, at one point, even holding hands across the table. eanwhile Aniston again teamed up with her best pal Courteney Cox for a day at the beach near their Malibu homes.

The Californian beauty was joined by Cox, her husband David Arquette and their daughter Coco to mark US Memorial Day.

Beyonce not ready for a baby in a decade

Don't expect to see Beyonce bouncing a baby on her knee for at least the next ten years.

The singer/actress insisted to French magazine Question De Femmes that though she wants to be a mom some day, she is not yet ready to join the baby bandwagon of Hollywood.

As for how many years fans need to wait before they get to see Beyonce turn a mom, well the 'Bootylicious' singer insists that it might be a decade before she decides she's ready for diaper duty.

At the moment, however, she just wants to concentrate on accomplishing all her goals.

"Yes, in 10 years. For the moment, there are still so many things I need to accomplish," Contactmusic quoted her, as saying.

The singer is currently dating rap mogul Jay-Z, sparked off rumours that they were planning a 3 million dollar wedding in the Caribbean last year. However, the rumours were shot down by both the stars.

If there's one skill that Keira Knightley hasn't mastered as yet, it would be the art of cooking.
The British beauty confesses that she is utterly "hopeless" in the kitchen. So much so, that she even encourages her friends not to try out anything she rustles up, for she fears that they might end up getting food poisoning.

The actress can currently be seen on the big screen opposite heart-throbs Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom in the final movie of the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' trilogy 'At World's End'.

The Oscar nominated actress returns as the aristocratic Elizabeth Swann.

And while she certainly has a special place in her heart for her 'Pirates' role, Knightley recently revealed that she was "relieved" that she was moving on from the movie.
